MotherFlux

MotherFlux is a collaboration of three queer parent-poets from the margins of (m)otherhood : Jem Henderson, Erica Gillingham, JP Seabright.

For embryonic dreamers, pregnancy-performers, sleep-deprived newbies and seasoned second-timers, MotherFlux is raw, messy and unflinching in what it takes to be a parent and to make a family.

Published 12th May by Nine Pens Press with a live London launch on 16th May at the Soho Poly Theatre.www.tickettailor.com/events/universityofwestminstercollegeofliberalartsandsciences/1222302

Praise for MotherFlux

“Exploring with such honesty, ferocious language and appetite the many forms of (queer) motherhood, MotherFlux is at once so many things: witty, surreal, triumphant, contemplative and incredibly moving. Together and separately, these poets’ experiments with forms and language, reveal the hidden/darker sides and unfamiliar terrains of motherhood(s) and intersections with queer identities, express an unapologetic defiance against traditional gender roles/stereotypes of ‘the ideal family’, offering the joys and guilts in mother-love, family-love, self-love, and in these the fluid boundaries of possibilities.” Jennifer Wong, writer, poet, translator, author of 回家 Letters Home

These moving, honest poems find the spaces between mother and other, write selves into paper, naming children and renaming roles. This collaborative pamphlet mirrors the collaborative act of becoming queer parents and offers alternative languages of loving.” Hannah Silva, writer, performer, researcher, author of My Child, the Algorithm.

“MotherFlux is a pamphlet of change, fracturing and continual remaking. In bringing together their three voices and the multiplicity of experience contained within them, Henderson, Gillingham and Seabright have created something so special – a raw, honest, evolving set of poems that capture something of the complexity, community and the beauty of (m)othering in all its guises.” Hannah Copley, writer, editor, academic, author of Lapwing

“Just when I think I’ve read everything there is to say about parenthood, something like MotherFlux comes along and blows my mind. It’s so real it hurts. I adored every page.” Kirsty Logan, writer, author of The Unfamiliar: A Queer Motherhood Memoir
